Just like that looking at the colours of people

At home I enjoyed snoozing my alarm for hours and hours and then finally I would roll out of bed, still half asleep because I slept too long in the end. But here, I just can’t, here I wake up at 8am, when my alarm rings, ready to explore! (Also, the fact that my matrass is as hard as stone compared to the one at home might encourage me not to snooze). This first morning I decided to just walk around and since I didn’t buy any breakfast yet, I decided to go to a coffeehouse recommended by Eline so naturally I walked the wrong way hahaha. The sun was shining, the scooters honking and the birds chirping; a beautiful morning. I was going to hang out with Eline and so I also decided to join her to the international church this Sunday morning. I bet you didn’t see that one coming, Amy going to church…

On our way to the church, and here comes the anti-climax, I spotted a dead snake next to the road. I know I teased you with snakes in my former blog but honestly the realisation that these thingies are around gave me the shivers …Brrrrr. The church was interesting, a lot of internationals and some locals. Eline explained to me the difference between just believing because you have to, being dedicated to your believe or believing because you fear your God. The latter one is apparently a common here in Nepal. I won’t bother you any further with what I got from the church.

We decided to grab some breakfast and a coffee in Sam’s cafe. A lovely place with locals and tourists and with walls filled with books for sale <3. Before my departure people warned me for the big cultural shock I might have but my prior experience in Asian countries combined with the tourism in Kathmandu make adapting very easy. Or even worse… tourist won’t even have to adapt because there is French toast, English breakfast and Belgium waffles around the area to find. However apart from the very regular breakfast in the nice coffeeplace, which is comforting, I absolutely would love to dive into Nepali life and I will!

The next challenge was doing groceries with my personal mission to find yogurt! We went to bigmart, a bigger supermarket compared to all the little self-owned/made shops in the small rooms of peoples houses. Everything in the supermarket looked as if it was overdue and covered in dust. But everything I needed was there including the yogurt. I checked the date –/–/2076… right… google help! Conclusion the yogurt was good, looked disgusting, tasted slightly sour and creamy and delicious <3  Ini Happy hahaha

Time to say Eline goodbye and discover Patan on my own. Naturally I walked the wrong direction again… oops haha. Patan is amazing. Plenty of really small alleys filled with little shops, bars and food places (can’t really call those restaurants haha).  But also, way too much traffic everywhere. Crossing the streets was one of my major challenges that day but I didn’t die. The Durbar Square of Patan was impressive! It is filled with temples and locals hanging out on these ancient places of worship.  I managed to sneak past the 1000rp tourist fee and enjoyed the view of the square from a building on the other side of the square. I really want to go back there some time, bring a book and a pencil, just chill and read, draw and look at all the people mass that crosses the square.

I met Eline in the evening and we went out for dinner. The restaurant was a lovely colourful place that felt like a canteen haha. The food was great and only around 650rp, you do the math ;p .

Namaste lovelies! Till my next story!
