Mountain Child Care is a Dutch non-profit organisation for whom I will be ‘working’in Nepal. Mountain Child Care was founded in 2008 by Marianne van Wetter en Mark Simons. Both have a passion for hiking and were inspired by the effect of hiking on themselves and others. The nature around them, the commitment to the hike, the pain in their feet, it made them realise that during a hike, victories and awareness can be celebrated and created. Marianne and Mark share a vision too. They believe that everyone has unique talents which, when developed, form a basis for a joyful and fulfilling life. Their vision is to bring young people into contact with their inner motivation for the future and use those unique talents to create their own future. We are talking here about the youth living in the two largest cities of Nepal, aged 16 to 23. Marianne and Mark started by combining their passion of hiking with their knowledge and experience and developed treks as a training.
The QuestTrek® together with the after-trajectory, the QuestTribe, form a personal leadership program. The QuestTrek is a 6-day hike through the Himalayas, where techniques such as Theory U, motivational interviewing and Co-active coaching are used to promote authenticity, awareness and inner motivation with a focus on a plan for their future. During the six days the combination of the overwhelming nature, the exercises, sharing and fun the participants will develop themselves in a unique way and also create a concrete plan for the future. The QuestTribe is a follow-up program to further support them in integrating the new insights and commitments. This means that 6 days with 6 weeks in between, the participants of the QuestTribe will meet again for a day of coaching and training. These days are meant to overcome obstacles and reconnect with each other and the insights from the QuestTribe.
In collaboration with the local trainers team, I am committed to further improving the QuestTribe group coaching days to better guide the young people after the QuestTrek.
